Position OverviewSleepyhead is seeking a highly experienced and visionary Chief Financial Officer (CFO) with deep, hands-on e-commerce finance experience to lead the company’s financial strategy, capital planning, and operational scaling as we enter our next phase of rapid growth. This role will serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, working directly with the CEO to drive long-term strategy, profitability, and enterprise value creation.
This is not a traditional CFO role; the ideal candidate has a strong background in high-growth, direct-to-consumer (DTC) or e-commerce environments, with a deep understanding of marketing-driven revenue models, customer acquisition economics, and digital channel performance. This leader will play a critical role in aligning financial strategy with performance marketing, inventory planning, and rapid scaling initiatives.
ResponsibilitiesExecutive Financial Leadership:
- Provide strategic leadership over all financial functions, including accounting, FP&A, tax, treasury, compliance, and risk management.
- Serve as a core partner to the CEO and executive team, helping define company vision, strategic priorities, and long-term growth plans within a high-growth e-commerce environment.
- Build, lead, and scale a high-performing finance organization, including internal team members and external partners.
- Establish financial discipline while supporting aggressive growth across digital channels and product expansion.
- Oversee financial reporting accuracy, audit readiness, and regulatory compliance.
E-Commerce Financial Strategy & Growth Execution:
- Own company-wide financial planning, including budgets, forecasts, and long-range models tied directly to e-commerce performance drivers.
- Lead financial strategy across key e-commerce levers including pricing, promotions, inventory investment, and channel mix.
- Partner closely with marketing leadership to optimize customer acquisition cost (CAC), lifetime value (LTV), return on ad spend (ROAS), and channel scalability.
- Analyze performance across paid media (Meta, Google, TikTok), Amazon, and other digital sales channels to guide investment decisions.
- Drive visibility into contribution margin, cohort performance, and unit economics at a granular level.
- Identify opportunities to improve margin, reduce inefficiencies, and scale profitably across all revenue channels.
Capital Strategy & Investor Relations:
- Lead all capital strategy initiatives, including fundraising, debt financing, and capital structure optimization.
- Own investor relations, including board reporting, financial presentations, and stakeholder communications.
- Build and manage relationships with investors, lenders, and financial institutions.
- Oversee cash flow management with a strong focus on inventory cycles, working capital, and e-commerce cash conversion dynamics.
- Support M&A opportunities, partnerships, and strategic investments.
Operational & Financial Infrastructure:
- Design and implement scalable financial systems and reporting frameworks tailored to e-commerce operations and high transaction volume environments.
- Oversee ERP implementation, financial automation, and integration with platforms such as Shopify, Amazon, and marketing analytics tools.
- Partner cross-functionally with operations and supply chain to manage inventory planning, demand forecasting, and fulfillment cost optimization.
- Ensure financial processes scale alongside rapid growth in order volume, SKUs, and marketing spend.
- Drive continuous improvement in reporting speed, accuracy, and actionable insights.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field required; Master’s degree strongly preferred.
- CPA, CFA, or MBA highly preferred.
- 12–15+ years of progressive finance leadership experience, with significant experience in e-commerce, DTC, or consumer brands (required).
- Proven track record of scaling financial operations within a high-growth e-commerce business.
- Deep expertise in marketing-driven financial models, including CAC, LTV, ROAS, contribution margin, and cohort analysis.
- Hands-on experience supporting or leading performance marketing finance and channel-level profitability analysis.
- Experience leading capital raises, investor relations, and financial strategy at a senior level.
- Strong understanding of inventory management, supply chain finance, and working capital in an e-commerce environment.
- Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Online, ERP systems, and Excel-based financial modeling.
- Experience with platforms such as Shopify, Amazon Seller Central, and marketing analytics tools strongly preferred.
- Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence executive decision-making.
- Excellent communication, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
Must be based in or willing to relocate to Scottsdale, AZ and work in-office Monday–Friday.
