Overview
We are seeking a strategic and operationally minded Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead the financial direction of a growing organization in the FQHC and behavioral health space. This is a highly specialized healthcare environment requiring deep expertise in reimbursement models, regulatory compliance, and financial leadership in complex, multi-payer systems.
The CFO will serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, partnering closely with clinical, operational, and board stakeholders to drive financial sustainability, manage risk, and support long-term growth initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead financial strategy, planning, and forecasting, with a strong focus on cash flow management in delayed reimbursement environments
- Develop and model financial scenarios tied to Medicaid eligibility changes, grant funding, and payer mix variability
- Translate financial performance into actionable insights for executive leadership, clinical teams, and board members
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including FQHC-specific requirements
- Present financials to boards, lenders, auditors, and funding entities with confidence and credibility
- Guide the organization through audits, including single audits related to grant funding
- Support M&A activity, integrations, and strategic growth initiatives as industry consolidation continues
- Evaluate and improve financial systems, reporting structures, and operational workflows
- Partner with revenue cycle leadership to optimize collections, reduce denials, and improve cash conversion
- Remain up to date with state, federal and local laws and regulations
- Ensure timeliness, accuracy, and consistency of financial and management reporting for federal state and county funders, and Board of directors.
Required Qualifications
- 15+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, including senior-level roles (CFO, VP Finance, etc.)
- CFO for at least five years in a rapidly growing and changing environment
- Deep understanding of Medicaid reimbursement, grant funding, and private insurance revenue streams
- Proven experience managing financial operations in highly regulated environments
- Strong expertise in healthcare cash flow forecasting and revenue recognition in uncertain reimbursement models
- Experience with audits, cost reporting, and multi-state regulatory requirements
- Demonstrated ability to partner with executive leadership and communicate effectively with boards and external stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience in FQHC, CCBHC, or similar healthcare environments
- Experience with acquisitions, integrations, or organizational scaling in healthcare
- Track record of improving financial infrastructure in underdeveloped or evolving environments
- CPA, MBA, or other advanced financial credentials
