About The Team/About The Role
The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for leading the organisation’s finance function and providing strategic and operational financial leadership to support the organisations mission, strategy and long-term sustainability. Reporting to the COO, the CFO is a senior leader who partners closely with the CEO and executive team, budget holders and the Board or relevant Board committees to deliver high-quality financial stewardship, business insight, risk management and compliance.
The role leads the Finance Unit, a team of 9 across finance business partnering, payroll and core finance operations, ensuring the organisation has robust financial controls, accurate reporting, effective planning and a service-oriented finance function.
The CFO is a key contributor to the organisation’s value creation by providing short- and long-term business insights and analysis, driving efficiency opportunities not only within Finance but also across CCNSW, and ensuring financial compliance and control.

Key responsibilities of the role: - Provide strategic financial leadership and trusted advice to the CEO, Board and Executive to support enterprise planning, decision-making, performance management and long-term sustainability.
- Lead organisation-wide financial strategy, annual budgeting, forecasting and planning processes, ensuring alignment with organisational priorities and objectives.
- Prepare and present high-quality financial analysis, modelling, reporting and insights for the Board, Executive, Audit, Risk and Technology Committee, and Investment Committee.
- Partner with divisional and functional leaders to strengthen financial literacy, improve accountability and position Finance as a valued strategic business partner.
- Oversee the payroll function to ensure accurate, timely and compliant processing of payroll, superannuation, taxation and related employee payments in partnership with People & Culture.
- Lead the preparation of statutory financial statements and ensure all financial reporting and disclosure obligations are met in accordance with relevant statutory, regulatory and governance requirements.
- Establish and maintain robust financial controls, systems, policies and procedures to support accurate reporting, sound governance, transparency and effective decision-making.
- Ensure appropriate frameworks are in place to identify, manage and monitor financial and related organisational risks within the organisation’s risk appetite and governance settings.
- Manage the relationship with the external Financial Advisor and provide oversight and management of treasury functions, including investments, liquidity, and timely and accurate cashflow forecasts to protect the organisation’s financial position.
About you: Essential: - Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Accounting, Commerce or a related discipline, together with CA or CPA accreditation.
- Demonstrated experience as a Chief Financial Officer, or in a comparable senior financial leadership role, with proven capability advising CEOs, executives, boards and board committees.
- Deep expertise across budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, statutory compliance, audit, risk, internal controls, treasury and the provision of high-quality financial insights to support decision-making.
- Experience overseeing payroll operations and ensuring compliance with legislative, taxation, superannuation and award obligations.
- Strong commercial acumen, including the ability to support long term revenue strategies, funding models and long-term financial sustainability.
- Demonstrated success leading and developing high-performing teams, building capability, and driving a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to lead change, improve systems and processes, and apply technology to enhance finance operations, reporting and service delivery.
- Advanced proficiency in finance systems, payroll platforms, Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, and the confident use of emerging technologies.
Desirable: - Experience in the not-for-profit sector, with a strong understanding of diverse funding streams (including grants, donations and fundraising)
