Interim Chief Financial Officer / Finance Director

Position Summary
This role is responsible for financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, compliance, cash management, audit coordination, grant and contract administration, and operational financial strategy. The CFO partners with executive leadership, board members, program leaders, and external stakeholders to ensure the long-term financial health and sustainability of the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Strategic Planning
- Lead the organization’s overall financial operations, policies, and procedures.
- Provide financial analysis, modeling, and recommendations to executive leadership to support key business decisions.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable financial, legal, regulatory, and reporting requirements.
- Develop annual budgets and multi-year financial projections to support organizational and program planning.
- Guide and support organization-wide budget planning and monitoring processes.
- Develop, implement, and maintain financial policies and procedures.
Financial Management & Reporting
- Monitor revenue sources and ensure accurate accounting and financial reporting.
- Prepare and present financial reports to executive leadership, boards, committees, and other stakeholders as needed.
- Analyze financial performance and provide ongoing variance analysis and recommendations.
- Maintain financial reporting schedules to meet internal and external deadlines.
- Provide financial education and guidance to leadership and operational teams.
Cash Management & Banking Relations
- Develop and manage cash flow forecasting and reporting processes.
- Monitor cash reserves and implement strategies to maintain financial stability.
- Arrange financing arrangements when necessary, including lines of credit, equipment financing, and other borrowing activities.
Audit, Compliance & Risk Management
- Coordinate annual audits and other financial reviews with external auditors.
- Ensure timely completion of audits and implementation of recommendations.
- Maintain compliance with funding agreements, contracts, and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee preparation and submission of required financial reports and compliance documentation.
Grants, Contracts & Funding Management
- Support contract and grant budget development, negotiations, and reporting requirements.
- Monitor expenditures to ensure compliance with approved budgets, funding restrictions, and contractual obligations.
- Coordinate invoicing and reimbursement processes for funded programs and projects.
- Assist in the preparation of grant budgets, financial narratives, and related financial documentation.
- Conduct fiscal reviews of grants, contracts, and funding agreements from public and private funding sources.
- Ensure appropriate allocation of expenses in accordance with organizational accounting methodologies and funding requirements.
Operations & Team Management
- Oversee accounts payable, disbursements, expense reimbursements, and related financial processes.
- Supervise payroll processing and related compliance activities.
- Manage relationships with auditors, consultants, vendors, and other external service providers.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to finance staff and support cross-functional collaboration.
- Participate as a key member of the executive leadership team.
- Lead special projects and perform additional duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- Senior financial leadership experience within nonprofit, public sector, social impact, healthcare, housing, community development, or related organizations.
- Strong background in budgeting, forecasting, financial planning and analysis, grants and contracts management, audit oversight, and compliance.
- Experience presenting financial information to executive leadership and boards of directors.
- Knowledge of fund accounting, grant compliance, and government-funded programs preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, and relationship management skills.
