Chief Financial Officer, Asset Management
Confidential, Alternative Investment Platform
New York, NY | Hybrid
Taylor Root is seeking a Chief Financial Officer to join the asset management business of a growing alternative investment platform. This seat takes ownership of finance for the funds and the management company, reporting to the platform's Chief Financial Officer, with a clear path to broader firm-level finance responsibility over time.
This is a hands-on mandate. The CFO will carry technical work while overseeing the existing fund accounting team and building the infrastructure, controls and reporting the platform needs as it grows. The role is externally visible, with direct exposure to limited partners, the board, auditors and service providers.
What you'll own
- Fund accounting and financial reporting across the firm's private funds, including the NAV and valuation process, capital calls, distributions and investor capital account statements.
- Own the economics set out in fund documents, including waterfall, carried interest, management fee and expense allocation calculations.
- Lead and develop the existing fund accounting team.
- Own the annual fund audits and serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors.
- Manage vendor and service provider relationships, including the fund administrator, tax preparers and valuation providers.
- Take ownership of finance and reporting for the firm's digital assets business, including valuation, cost basis tracking and accounting and tax treatment.
- Own management company financials, including the budget, forecasting, fee revenue, expense management and cash and liquidity planning.
- Lead responses to investor due diligence questionnaires and operational due diligence reviews, and present to limited partners and the board.
- Coordinate regulatory filings, including Form ADV and Form PF, with compliance, and fund tax compliance and K-1 delivery with external advisors.
- Support new fund launches, fund structuring and fund-level financing arrangements.
What we're looking for
- 10 to 15 years of progressive finance and accounting experience at alternative investment managers, with exposure across multiple products such as private credit, private equity and liquid strategies.
- Currently at Director of Finance, VP of Finance, Head of Finance, Controller level and ready to step into a CFO seat.
- Command of fund structures and LPA economics, including waterfalls, carried interest and fee calculations.
- Demonstrated ownership of the NAV process, the annual audit and fund administrator relationships.
- Valuation experience across private and illiquid investments.
- Credible in front of limited partners, auditors and a board.
- A hands-on operator who works independently and does not need a large team to deliver.
- Technically curious, with active use of AI and automation in finance workflows.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related field. CPA preferred.
