The company
This climate-tech company is building a new generation of materials to replace fossil-fuel plastics. Its materials perform like conventional plastic and run on existing manufacturing equipment, but they're natural, home-compostable, and marine-biodegradable.
The technology is proven.
The company has raised more than $30 million from leading global investors and is already working with major international brands. It's now moving from demonstration production to commercial scale, with the ambition to become a globally significant materials company based in Australia.
The team is 35 people, which means this hire will shape how the company runs.
The role
Reporting to Founders / CEO, you'll own the financial engine of the business. You'll also be the person who makes things happen across operations, fundraising and strategic projects. One week you're modelling runway for a Board meeting; the next you're running due diligence on a raise or fixing a process nobody owns.
As the company scales into manufacturing, there's a clear path to broader finance and operational leadership.
What you'll own
Finance
- Budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, runway and financial modelling
- Board, investor and shareholder reporting, with clear, decision-ready insight for the founders
- Managing the finance function, including the external accountant, bookkeeping, payroll, AP/AR, tax and compliance
- Building the systems, reporting and controls needed for commercial-scale manufacturing
Capital
- Modelling, investor materials, due diligence and execution on future raises
- Shaping the funding mix across equity, project finance, debt and grants
Operations
- Running external partners across legal, IT, HR and insurance
- Supporting people operations: hiring, onboarding and employee admin
- Owning cross-functional projects that don't have an obvious home
What you'll bring
- 5–10 years in finance, investment banking, consulting or similar, with strong modelling, forecasting and accounting foundations
- Hands-on experience with fundraising, transactions or investment processes (project finance or grants exposure is a bonus)
- Startup or scale-up operating experience, or a clear appetite for it
- The judgement to work out unfamiliar problems quickly, and to know when to bring in a specialist
- Low ego and high ownership: you do the work and see it through
- Genuine motivation to build something from the ground up on a global problem
