About Your Work
The Altais Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a forward-thinking and dynamic Chief Financial Officer (CFO). The CFO is a key leadership team member of the organization with a primary role to provide strategic leadership and direct fiscal operations for Altais. This hands-on role is responsible for the overall executive oversight of finance, reporting, general accounting, revenue cycle management, payor relations, contracting and data analytic functions of the business. In addition to building Altais’ financial function, the CFO will be responsible for developing and nurturing a strong partnership with the larger Blue Shield of California organization. The CFO has a highly visible role and will be counted on to successfully implement and deliver solutions that leverage data, reporting and analytics to inform business decisions and achieve revenue targets.
You Will Focus On
- Advises Executive Leadership Team (ELT) on business strategy, priorities, financial performance and directly engages with and influences ELT to drive key decisions and resource allocation.
- In partnership with executive leadership, develops and maintains long-term company strategic plan, including five-year financial plan and specific strategic initiatives, related investment/capital deployment requirements and cost/benefit analyses.
- Drives profitable growth ensuring the company maximizes the full potential from its markets and new ventures.
- Leads the strategy, finance, and analytical teams responsible for producing monthly forecasting and accruals.
- Achieves medical cost, medical loss ratio and operational income targets set in forecasts.
- Develops, negotiates, and oversees the financial terms of contracts with clients and coordinates related activities such as establishment of medical cost benchmarks, continuous financial performance monitoring and settlements of contingencies under each contract (i.e., performance penalties and/or incentives).
- Ensures that Altais network participation providers meet quality and financial contractual targets and settles payments owed under such contracts.
- Prioritizes and coordinates all cost of care analytics for business, including data environment to ensure relevance of information applied in management of business and used to optimize effectiveness of care management activities.
- Maintains and analyzes claims experience and contract Key Performance Indicator data associated with the network in applicable geographic territory.
- Communicates and drives adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Oversees the overall policies, objectives, and initiatives of an Altais’ revenue cycle activities.
- Tracks and monitors key revenue cycle performance indicators; reports key findings and influences the leadership team, other stakeholders within the organization to improve the outcomes.
- Ensures internal controls, policies and procedures are consistent with state and federal laws, compliance plans and HIPAA (as well as external audits).
- Ensures goals of all team members align with company strategy and drives accountability.
- Partners with other members of the executive team on overall strategic planning.
- Helps with recruitment and onboarding of new finance staff.
- Represents the company and its services to external audiences.
The Skills, Experience & Education You Bring
- Experience within managed care, health care or insurance company required.
- Expertise in financial risk planning in the health insurance context, including projecting and calculating medical costs and IBNR.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in accounting and financial management practices.
- Experience in a senior management position.
- Expertise with accounting software and spreadsheets.
- Proven GAAP and financial reporting technical expertise.
- Experience with Utilization Management, URAC, IRO, Payment Integrity
- Proven business negotiation skills; track record of successful negotiations with a variety of counterparties and vendors.

- senior decisions makers.
- Ability to balance multiple projects and adapt to new issues/assignments as business needs

- Experience with either health plan payers, Medicare Advantage, managed Medicaid, and a
- national public auditing firm specializing in healthcare is preferred.
- Must be able to handle multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
- Must be detail oriented and have excellent analytical skills.
- Must have good communication skills, both written and verbal and experience with
- communication at an executive level.
- Must be able to interact with all levels of staff, including all senior management.
- Supervises accounting department to ensure proper functioning of all systems, database, and
- financial software.
- Ensures development and application of appropriate processes, procedures and internal
- controls and compliance with all financial and accounting procedures.
- Performs special projects and other tasks as requested by management.

The anticipated pay range for this role is listed in our salary posting for transparency but may vary based on factors including the candidate’s qualifications, skills, experience, and geographic location. This base pay range is specific to the Bay Area of California.

Physical Requirements: Office Environment - roles involving part to full time schedule in Office Environment. Based in our physical offices and work from home office/deskwork – Activity level: Sedentary, frequency most of workday. Required to be present in care delivery sites and among Altais leaders and external clients.
