A high-growth, PE-backed digital transformation business (with a revenue of £15m) is seeking an ambitious and hands-on CFO to professionalise and scale its finance function. The company delivers bespoke, mission-critical systems, software, cyber, data, and AI solutions to government, defence, and specialist agencies.
With 80 employees and plans to scale to 150 over the next 4 years, the business has trebled in size recently and is forecasting strong continued growth. Backed by a mid-market PE fund and led by three highly capable, engineering-minded founders, the business is on a trajectory to build a billion-dollar platform.
This is a high-impact, build role where you will operate as a true partner to the founders, taking ownership of finance while helping shape the commercial and operational infrastructure required for the next stage of growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and scale an in-house finance function, transitioning from a lean outsourced model.
- Take full ownership of all financial operations currently managed by the founders.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and private equity business planning processes.
- Implement robust project financial management, including budgeting, utilisation, and revenue oversight.
- Manage billing cycles, revenue recognition, and pipeline visibility alongside leadership.
- Deliver high-quality reporting for investors, board, and internal stakeholders.
- Drive process improvement, automation, and scalable financial infrastructure.
To Be Suitable
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with strong commercial finance experience.
- Background in a PE-backed business, either as a number 2 or as a hands-on number 1.
- Experience within professional services or service-based environments.
- Demonstrated ability to build and scale finance functions in high-growth businesses.
- Hands-on, pragmatic approach with willingness to operate at both strategic and operational levels.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to partner founders and investors.
- Commercially minded with an analytical and problem-solving mindset.
This is a rare opportunity to join a fast-scaling, founder-led business at a pivotal stage of growth. You will play a critical role in enabling scale, freeing up the founders to focus on delivery and growth, while building a best-in-class finance function aligned to a long-term value creation plan.
