About Outpost
What if I told you that parking lots—specifically semi-truck parking lots—are among the most interesting, misunderstood, and critical parts of the supply chain and U.S. economy? It’s true.
More than 70% of the food we eat, the clothes we wear, the things we use for work and recreation, and the materials that build our homes—all came to us by truck. And yet today, there’s only 1 legal parking space for every 11 trucks on the road. More than 3.5 million truck drivers in the US spend an hour on average, every day, just looking for a place to park, and many don’t end up finding one.
So we need many more safe and legal spaces for trucks to park. But it’s about more than just building more space—there’s also a massive opportunity for truck parking lots (also known as fleet yards) to streamline the US supply chain. Today, the largest fleets in the country manage their own truck yards to better serve nearby customers and operate more efficiently. But this real estate is inflexible to shifting freight demand and it’s financially out of reach for smaller fleets.
Outpost is uniquely addressing these issues, providing trucking companies with a network of fleet yards that they can use as part of their own logistics infrastructure. Every Outpost provides hundreds of semi-truck spaces, chipping away at the parking shortage. And by making our yards available as a flexible service, we’re helping smaller trucking companies level the playing field with large fleets by providing the efficiency of a private fleet yard without the ownership costs.
We’ve also built a unique that connects fleet managers with their equipment and drivers while providing better visibility into their trucks than even the largest fleets get at their own yards.
Our mission is to build the backbone of freight—a network of tech-enabled truck yards and terminals that help trucking companies better serve their customers, expand their transportation networks, and operate more efficiently. We operate at the intersection of real estate, freight logistics, and tech, so there are always interesting new challenges to address and great opportunities for learning.
