A newly PE-backed, high-growth software business (~$10M revenue, strong EBITDA) is seeking a hands-on, operational Chief Financial Officer to lead the next stage of scale. This is a critical hire reporting directly to the CEO and partnering closely with the private equity sponsor. The incoming CFO will professionalize the finance function, drive reporting and operational rigour, improve visibility across the business, and serve as the CEO’s strategic and operational right hand.
This role requires a builder, not just an overseer—someone who is comfortable rolling up their sleeves, getting deep into the numbers, and building systems, processes, and discipline from the ground up.
Key Responsibilities
Finance Leadership & Infrastructure Build
- Own all financial reporting, forecasting, analysis, and compliance for the company.
- Upgrade and mature the finance function—processes, controls, month-end cadence, KPI visibility, board reporting, and financial governance.
- Lead the transition from cash to accrual accounting, ensuring accuracy, audit readiness, and scalable infrastructure.
- Implement or optimize ERP, billing, and revenue systems; improve data hygiene and reporting granularity (SaaS metrics, unit economics, customer cohorts, pipeline visibility).
- Build an effective finance team over time (initially hands-on with heavy in-the-weeds ownership).
Strategic Partner to CEO, PE Sponsor & Leadership
- Act as a true business partner to the CEO on commercial decisions, pricing, customer economics, investment prioritization, and operating cadence.
- Work closely with the private equity sponsor on reporting, board materials, value creation plans, KPIs, and exit readiness.
- Provide insight-driven recommendations around growth planning, product/market expansion, and operational improvements.
- Lead annual operating planning, re-forecasting, scenario modelling, and long-range strategic financial planning.
Operational & Performance Management
- Own and refine key SaaS metrics (ARR/MRR, churn/retention, CAC payback, gross margin, contribution margin, LTV/CAC, NDR).
- Improve unit economics and operational efficiency across sales, marketing, product, engineering, and customer success.
- Partner with revenue-facing leaders to professionalize forecasting, pipeline discipline, and performance measurement.
- Drive rigorous cash management, budgeting, vendor reviews, and cost structure optimization.
M&A & Corporate Development (as appropriate)
- Support buy-side evaluation, diligence, integration planning, and synergy modeling.
- Prepare the company for future transaction events, including recapitalization or exit.
Candidate Profile
Experience
- CFO, VP Finance, or divisional finance leader within a software/SaaS business.
- Prior experience in a private equity-backed environment.
- Demonstrated track record building or upgrading a finance organization in a sub-$30M revenue company.
- Experience leading or directly executing a cash→accrual conversion.
- Strong command of SaaS metrics, revenue recognition, multi-entity consolidations, and GAAP accounting.
- Comfortable being hands-on: closing the books, digging into reconciliation, modeling, and reporting when necessary.
Leadership & Style
- Builder mentality with a willingness to dive into details; thrives in environments with limited existing structure.
- Pragmatic, commercially minded advisor—comfortable pushing back, influencing, and partnering across the business.
- Strong communicator who can translate financials into actionable insights for non-financial teams.
- High integrity, low ego, and a team-first mindset suited to a scaling, founder-led culture.
