We are looking for an experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead the financial strategy and operations of our organization. Based in West Des Moines, Iowa, this long-term contract position offers the opportunity to shape financial planning, manage resources, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership skills and a deep understanding of nonprofit financial management to support organizational growth and sustainability.
Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement comprehensive financial strategies that align with the organization's mission and long-term objectives.
• Provide actionable financial insights and recommendations to guide strategic decision-making for staff and the Board of Directors.
• Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with department heads, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities.
• Monitor and analyze budget performance, providing monthly variance reports and recommending adjustments as needed.
• Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger management.
• Supervise and support finance team members to ensure efficient and accurate financial operations.
• Prepare detailed financial reports, including monthly income statements, balance sheets, and variance analyses, tailored to diverse audiences.
• Coordinate annual audits and tax filings, acting as the primary liaison with external auditors and regulatory bodies.
• Manage cash flow and liquidity to optimize the organization’s financial health and sustainability.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as funder and grant requirements.
• Proven experience in financial leadership, preferably within a nonprofit organization.
• Strong expertise in cash flow analysis, capital management, and financial reporting.
• Proficiency in managing month-end close processes and overseeing business systems.
• Familiarity with federal, state, and local compliance requirements, including tax and audit procedures.
• Excellent skills in preparing and presenting financial reports to various stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop financial teams effectively.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to guide resource allocation and strategic planning.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or MBA preferred.
