Position Summary
The CFO will oversee all financial aspects of the organization, ensuring sound financial planning, risk management, and operational efficiency. This executive role requires collaboration with multiple departments, leadership in budgeting and financial strategy, and stewardship of financial policies and procedures across the company. The CFO will report directly to the President and provide critical insights to support long-term growth, compliance, and profitability.
Key Responsibilities/Duties
Partner with executive leadership, including Operations, IT, Customs, and Finance teams, to develop and execute strategies that ensure organizational and financial goals are achieved.
Analyze revenue, expenses, cash flows, and balance sheets to optimize profitability, maintain transparency, and provide actionable insights to leadership.
Maintain and optimize cash flow, reviewing banking activity and liquidity management strategies. Oversight of multi-entity financials and intercompany reporting.
Advise the President/Board on growth, financing, mergers/acquisitions, or investment opportunities Oversee billing, collections, and payment processes, driving efficiency improvements and maintaining strong internal controls.
Develop, manage, and monitor the company budget, identifying opportunities for cost savings and revenue growth.
Prepare and present monthly and annual financial reports to the leadership team/Board of Directors, summarizing budgets, payables, receivables, expenses, P&L analysis reporting and other financial metrics.
Assist in long-term strategic planning by providing financial modeling, scenario analysis, and recommendations for business expansion or investment opportunities.
Establish and enforce financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local regulations.
Oversee internal and external audit processes, liaising with auditors and ensuring timely resolution of findings.
Identify opportunities to improve financial performance, optimize operations, and reduce costs without compromising long-term organizational health.
Foster and maintain productive relationships with key stakeholders, including customers, vendors, banks, and other business partners.
Monitor market trends, competitor performance, and regulatory changes to inform business strategy. Oversee finance department staff, including billing, accounts receivable/payable, and cash management teams, ensuring professional development and performance management.
Evaluate and implement technology and software solutions to enhance financial reporting, analysis, and operational efficiency.
Perform other duties as required to support the company’s financial goals and strategic initiatives.
Qualifications & Skills
CPA designation or equivalent professional accounting certification required.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or Business Administration; MBA preferred.
Minimum 10 years of progressive financial leadership experience, ideally within logistics or multi-company environments, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
Proven expertise in financial planning, analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and risk management.
Strong understanding of corporate finance, accounting systems, compliance, and audit processes. Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing finance teams.
Exceptional strategic thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across all organizational levels.
Proficient in accounting and financial software, and familiar with technological advances in finance operations.
Experience in logistics, transportation, or distribution industry preferred.
Strong background in intercompany accounting and multi-entity financial consolidation.
Proficiency in financial systems (QuickBooks, Sage, NetSuite, or equivalent).
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and financial modeling.
Proven ability to lead audits, budgeting, and forecasting processes.
Experience managing payroll and benefit programs for mid- to large-scale organizations.
Strong understanding of Canadian GAAP and tax regulations.
