NOTE: This is a fractional role that is designed to turn into a permanent one.
Frontlands is a Texas-based fintech lender building the first mineral-rights–backed credit platform. We operate at the intersection of specialty finance, structured credit, oil and gas "mineral rights", and national consumer product. You will be joining a founder-led team that moves fast, values clarity, and expects high ownership.
Role Overview
A CFO (fractional initially) who can own financial strategy, assist with capital raising, capital markets planning, and reporting while helping us scale. You will work directly with the CEO and contribute to investor readiness, FP&A discipline, underwriting frameworks, and bank-partner compliance. This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives in early-stage environments and can bring structure quickly. Must be expert-level Google Sheets and Excel (we are predominately Google Sheets).
What You Will Own
** Capital Strategy (and assist on capital raising)
- Model and pressure-test equity and debt scenarios (seed, Series A, forward-flow, credit facilities, SPVs).
- Support investor conversations with clean, defensible models and materials.
- Develop capital plans for scaling the $5M seed round and $40–60M debt fund.
- Help structure creative investor solutions (e.g., LP participation, QOF considerations, co-investment structures).
** Financial Modeling & Forecasting
- Own the business model—bring additional clarity and refinement to the team regarding CAC:LTV dynamics, margin and growth drivers.
- Maintain and improve our multi-sheet forecasting environment (portfolio, revenue ramp, cash flows, underwriting variables).
- Build loan-level, portfolio-level, and fund-level models aligned with our mineral-rights lending economics.
- Create clear dashboards for liquidity, burn, unit economics, and loan book performance.
** Underwriting & Risk
- Co-own the credit framework with the CEO and Head of Operations, including borrower eligibility, mineral-rights valuation methodology (PDP/PUD weighting, price decks, decline curves), advance-rate logic, and automated underwriting parameters.
- Lead portfolio-level risk management: stress testing, concentration limits, liquidity modeling, asset-level performance tracking, covenant design, and risk reporting for internal leadership, bank partners, and institutional capital providers.
** Finance Operations
- Build monthly close, reporting, and audit-ready financial processes.
- Oversee lender reporting requirements (TransPecos, bank partners, Mastercard-linked reporting, etc.).
- Support compliance, ACH/settlement controls, fraud monitoring, and overall financial infrastructure.
** Investor, Board & Bank-Partner Management
- Prepare clean monthly reporting packages and board updates.
- Interface with the sponsor bank on financial controls and regulatory expectations.
- Support CEO on term sheets, negotiations, and due-diligence processes.
** What You Bring
- 7+ years of broad-based CFO background in a bank, mortgage, or other speciallty lender.
- Strong mastery of FP&A, capital markets, and credit facility design.
- Experience working with early-stage companies and building from a low-infrastructure environment.
- Ability to convert complexity into simple, investor-ready narratives.
- High ownership, steady communication, low ego, and a bias for speed.
- Execution at startup speed.
** Engagement Structure
- Fractional (approx. 10–20 hours/week to start).
- Can be in person or remote initially, but when transitioning to full time, this is an in-person role.
** Skills & Traits
- Operational athlete: loves structure, efficiency, and clarity
- Relentlessly organized
- Clear, direct communicator
- Systems thinker who sees around corners
- High judgment and calm under pressure
- Obsessed with precision (Bonous points for DM'ing me that I misspelled bonus)

- Positive attitude, prepared to "do the thing"
- Accountability with kindness
- Customer-first thinking
- “Build it once, scale it forever” attitude
- Entrepreneurial hunger

Pay attention to the details that matter—especially ones that touch the customer. Whether a solution is powered by advanced tech, personal service, or something in between, we’re committed to making it seamless, thoughtful, and well crafted.
