Porcea Stone (and it's sister brand STONEarch) is a Canadian leader in premium natural stone and outdoor porcelain products, supplying landscape architects, contractors, and dealers across North America. As a growing family-owned business with strong brand equity and expanding operations, we’re now ready for our first fully dedicated CFO — a hands-on, analytical, operational finance leader who can build discipline, clarity, and structure across the organization.
This is not a “big-company CFO” role. This is for someone who has personally built the finance function inside a small or mid-sized, often family-run business — someone who knows how to turn complexity, growth, and under-structured environments into scalable systems, clear dashboards, and real financial rigor.
About the role:
The CFO will serve as the company’s primary financial leader, responsible for strategy, accounting, controls, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, banking relationships, and financial systems. You’ll work with a lean team (internal + fractional resources) and act as both player and coach — rolling up your sleeves while also driving long-term financial direction.
You’ll partner closely with ownership, the CEO, and strategic advisors as we modernize systems, evaluate capital structure, build long-term models, and support multi-year growth initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Strategic Finance & Leadership: Build the finance function from scratch, partner with ownership on long-term strategy and capital planning, and translate 5–10 year goals into clear financial roadmaps while evaluating risks and opportunities with a capital-preservation mindset.
- Modeling, Budgeting & Analytics: Personally develop advanced multiyear, multicurrency financial models, lead budgeting/reforecasting and cash planning, and upgrade reporting from Excel to dashboards and board-ready KPIs with clear visibility into margins and operations.
- Accounting, Controls & Month-End: Run a disciplined ~7-day month-end close, establish accounting controls and policies, and oversee COA design, revenue/cost recognition, reconciliations, inventory accounting, tax compliance, and audit coordination.
- Capital Structure & Banking: Manage banking relationships, optimize working capital and cash utilization, negotiate debt facilities and terms, and ensure the company maintains the right financing structure for growth.
- Operating as a Solo / Lean-Team CFO: Act as the company’s primary finance leader with a small internal team and fractional partners, serving as the main point of contact for accountants, auditors, bankers, and legal while balancing hands-on execution with strategic leadership.
- Family Business & Ownership Alignment: Navigate family-business dynamics with professionalism, establishing formal controls while respecting legacy practices and aligning decisions with owner priorities around capital preservation, disciplined risk-taking, and long-term succession.
- And the ability to support in other special projects like real estate portfolio management, strategic business acquisition, product offering expansion support, etc.
Qualifications:
- Experience as CFO, VP Finance, or Head of Finance in a small/medium business; preferably family-owned.
- Has been the first or solo finance leader in a reasonably sized org
- Strong foundation in accounting (CPA helpful but not required); CFA preferred for analytical rigor.
- Deep experience in FP&A, budgeting, modeling, cash flow planning, and operational finance.
- Strong experience in inventory-heavy, CapEx-heavy, or manufacturing/distribution businesses.
- Hands-on with ERPs and financial systems; experience driving implementations.
- Exceptional Excel and modeling skills.
- Highly collaborative, detail-oriented, and comfortable building structure in under-structured environments.
- Primarily in-office in Bolton, with some hybrid flexibility.
WORKING CONDITION: Works both in-office and remotely from home (hybrid).
