The organisation
Vision Australia is a leading national organisation with a proud 150-year legacy. We’re passionately pursuing our mission to empower people who are blind or have low vision to live the life they choose. Our dedicated team of around 850 employees and more than 2,000 volunteers delivers vital services across education, employment, independence and social inclusion – from specialist allied health and employment support to assistive technology and Seeing Eye Dogs.
The opportunity
Vision Australia is seeking an accomplished and values-led Chief Financial Officer to steward the organisation’s financial sustainability and enable our strategic ambitions. Reporting to the CEO and working closely with the Board and its committees, the CFO plays a critical role in ensuring strong governance, disciplined financial management and informed decision-making across a complex, mission-driven organisation.
This role has responsibility for financial oversight, risk management, investment governance and property functions across Vision Australia, including stewardship of a significant investment portfolio managed through the Vision Australia Foundation. As a trusted advisor to the CEO and Leadership Team, the CFO provides insight into economic trends, funding environments, risks and opportunities, supporting the organisation to navigate change while remaining financially resilient.
This is a rare opportunity to contribute to a nationally significant organisation where strong financial stewardship directly underpins social impact. You will lead high-performing teams, strengthen systems and controls, and help ensure Vision Australia is well positioned to continue delivering for the Blind and Low Vision community into the future.
About you
You are a seasoned finance executive with strong commercial acumen, governance capability and the credibility to operate effectively at Board and executive level. You bring deep expertise in financial management, planning and reporting, alongside experience in audit, risk and compliance within complex organisations.
You are values-driven and purpose-led, understanding the role that robust financial stewardship plays in enabling mission outcomes. Experience managing investment portfolios and property functions will be highly regarded, as will experience in large, decentralised or human services environments.
Lived experience of blindness or low vision will be highly valued. We actively encourage talented candidates from the Blind and Low Vision community to apply, while warmly welcoming applications from all finance leaders who bring the essential capabilities and are aligned to Vision Australia’s purpose and values.
Strong financial literacy, the ability to navigate complexity and a collaborative, pragmatic leadership style are essential.
What’s on offer
A competitive remuneration package will be offered, commensurate with skills and experience.
The role will be based at Vision Australia’s national headquarters in Melbourne. Regular engagement with Board and Committee meetings, including some interstate travel, will be required.
