The Opportunity
A well-established, founder-led union specialty contractor in the Bay Area is conducting a quiet search for a CFO to step into a key succession role. The business has operated for 30+ years, serves major commercial clients across Northern California, and runs significant project volume with a skilled union workforce.
The current CFO is highly respected and will remain involved in a limited advisory capacity through a defined transition.
What You'll Own
- Full financial operations: accounting, reporting, cash management, and controls
- WIP schedule management, job costing, and project financial oversight
- Bonding and surety relationships (capacity management is a priority)
- Banking, line of credit, and lender relationships
- Prevailing wage compliance and union labor cost tracking
- Supporting the CEO with financial visibility for operational decisions
Ideal Background
- 10+ years in construction finance, ideally in specialty trades or union subcontracting
- Strong command of percentage-of-completion accounting and WIP reporting
- Hands-on operator, not a delegator from day one
- CPA preferred, not required
- Experience at a privately held or founder-led company is a strong plus
- Bay Area market familiarity preferred
