About the Business
Our client is a well-established, privately owned provider of high-security access control and electronic security systems, trusted by government, financial services and commercial clients across Queensland, New South Wales, and the ACT for more than two decades. Known for technical excellence and a genuinely responsive, flexible approach to client service, the business is entering its next phase of growth and investing in the systems, technology and leadership needed to scale without losing what makes it different.
The Opportunity
This is a newly created mandate for a commercially sharp, hands-on CFO who wants to build a finance function, not just run one. Reporting directly to the CEO, you'll modernise financial systems and reporting, embed AI and automation to improve productivity across the business, and put in place the financial infrastructure needed to support sustained growth, all while protecting the responsiveness and flexibility that has always set the business apart in the eyes of its clients.
Key Responsibilities:-
- Own financial strategy, planning, budgeting, and reporting, giving the CEO and leadership team clear, timely visibility of performance, cash flow and risk
- Lead a genuine transformation of the finance function, identifying and implementing AI and automation tools that improve productivity, reduce manual effort, and free the team for higher-value analysis
- Build scalable reporting, forecasting, project costing, and margin management suited to a multi-state, project- and contract-based security business
- Act as a strategic partner to the CEO on growth planning, pricing, capital allocation, and future M&A
- Strengthen governance, risk management, and compliance, including support for tender/bid processes and oversight of multi-state licensing obligations
- Manage banking relationships, working capital and cash flow across both project-based and recurring (monitoring/maintenance) revenue streams
- Lead, mentor, and grow a small, capable finance team, building a culture of continuous improvement
- Stay close to the operational side of the business; this is a hands-on role that calls for a leader who is responsive and flexible, comfortable adjusting priorities as the business and its clients require
About You
- CA/CPA qualified, with substantial experience at CFO or senior finance leadership level
- A genuine track record of leading finance transformation, ideally including hands-on use of AI or automation to improve productivity and decision-making, not just familiarity with the concept
- Naturally responsive and flexible, with the judgement to make good decisions quickly and adapt as priorities shift
- Comfortable operating hands-on and close to the detail, while equally credible presenting to a CEO or board
- Experience in project-based, contract or field-services businesses highly regarded (security, construction, technical services, infrastructure or similar)
- Experience navigating government, enterprise, or regulated-client relationships is an advantage, given the business's client base
- A builder's mindset. Motivated by shaping systems and processes, not just maintaining them
What's on Offer
- Genuine mandate and autonomy to reshape the finance function from the ground up
- Direct partnership with the CEO and leadership team
- A stable, well-regarded business with a loyal client base and two decades of track record to build from
- A flexible, responsive working environment
- A competitive remuneration package reflecting the scope and seniority of the role.
