Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Location: Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex, TX (On-site) Reports to: Chief Executive Officer & Board of Directors Compensation: Competitive base salary + annual performance bonus + meaningful equity incentive package
The Opportunity
Our client is a private equity-backed platform company positioned for aggressive growth, both organically and through acquisition. This is a rare, ground-floor opportunity for a hands-on financial executive to build the entire accounting and finance function from scratch — the people, processes, systems, and reporting infrastructure that will scale with the business through its next phase of growth and ultimately support a successful exit.
This is not a caretaker role. The right candidate is a builder: someone who combines deep technical accounting and finance expertise with the leadership presence to recruit, develop, and grow a high-performing team, and the executive maturity to operate as a true partner to the CEO, the board, and the private equity sponsor.
Key Responsibilities
Build the Function
- Design and stand up the complete accounting and finance organization, including org structure, roles, and hiring plan
- Select, implement, and optimize the ERP/accounting systems, FP&A tools, and reporting infrastructure
- Establish accounting policies, internal controls, and month-end close processes that meet PE-grade standards
- Drive the close calendar down to a timely, repeatable cadence with accurate GAAP financial statements
Financial Leadership & Strategy
- Serve as a strategic thought partner to the CEO and leadership team on all matters of finance, capital allocation, and value creation
- Own budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning; build a rigorous FP&A capability
- Develop KPI dashboards and management reporting that give leadership and the sponsor real-time visibility into business performance
- Lead cash flow management, working capital optimization, and treasury functions
- Manage banking relationships, debt covenants, and lender reporting
Private Equity & Transaction Support
- Act as the primary financial liaison to the private equity sponsor and board; prepare board materials and sponsor reporting packages
- Support M&A activity end-to-end: diligence, quality of earnings, valuation modeling, purchase accounting, and post-close integration of add-on acquisitions
- Prepare the company for eventual exit, including data room readiness, sell-side diligence support, and audit readiness
Team Leadership
- Recruit, mentor, and retain top accounting and finance talent; build a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement
- Develop succession depth and scalable team structure as the company grows
- Champion cross-functional collaboration between finance and operations
Compliance & Risk
- Oversee annual audits, tax compliance (federal, state, and local), and insurance/risk management programs
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory, lender, and sponsor requirements
- Establish and maintain a strong internal control environment
The Ideal Candidate
- 15+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including prior experience as a CFO or senior finance leader (VP Finance, Corporate Controller stepping up) in a private equity-backed environment
- Proven builder: has stood up or significantly transformed an accounting/finance function, including systems implementations and team build-outs
- Deep technical foundation in GAAP accounting, financial reporting, FP&A, and treasury; CPA strongly preferred (MBA a plus)
- M&A experience — diligence, integration, and purchase accounting for add-on acquisitions
- Experience working directly with PE sponsors, boards, and lenders, including covenant management and sponsor-level reporting
- Exceptional leadership skills: a track record of recruiting, developing, and retaining high-performing teams
- Hands-on operator comfortable rolling up their sleeves in a lean environment while thinking strategically
- Strong systems acumen — ERP selection/implementation experience (e.g., NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics)
- High integrity, low ego, and thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth, high-accountability culture
- Based in or willing to relocate to the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive base salary commensurate with experience
- Annual performance-based bonus
- Meaningful equity incentive with significant upside tied to company value creation and exit
- Comprehensive benefits package (medical, dental, vision, 401(k))
- Opportunity to build and lead the finance organization of a growth platform with strong sponsor backing
