Position Overview
Our Client is a publicly listed renewable energy platform focused on the development, construction, and operation of solar and battery energy storage projects across North America. They are positioned at the intersection of energy transition, infrastructure, and technology. Currently expanding into new verticals driven by battery storage and data center energy demand, the organization is undergoing critical transformations as it scales its public company platform, integrates multiple legacy entities, and enhances its financial infrastructure.
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Financial Officer will be responsible for building and leading the finance function, overseeing all financial reporting, audit, and control processes, and serving as a key strategic partner to the business & CEO. The role will involve managing public company reporting requirements, strengthening internal controls, leading relationships with auditors, and supporting investor relations and capital markets initiatives. The CFO will play a critical role in operational finance, working closely with development, construction, and asset management teams to drive financial performance and support growth initiatives.
The ideal candidate will bring public company experience, strong technical accounting capabilities, and the ability to operate in a dynamic, evolving environment. Role Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee the entire finance function across all entities, owning the financial reporting (quarterly, annual). Including all public company financial regulatory filings, including MD&A, financial statements, in compliance with stock exchange and securities regulatory requirements (NASDAQ under IFRS).
- Act as a partner to the CEO, supporting in decision-making, providing real-time financial insights, and aligning finance with how the business runs.
- Build a scalable finance function, integrating the legacy finance reporting into one operating model.
- Translate the monthly financial results into clear, concise narratives for the CEO and senior leadership team, highlighting key trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Support investor relations and public market communication, building credibility with investors and analysts.
- Establish consistent accounting policies across entities, while fixing inefficiencies and cost overruns.
- Oversee the Accounting team, providing leadership, mentorship and performance management. Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth to ensure optimal team performance.
- Lead the external audit process, manage auditor relationships, and build & maintain internal control frameworks.
- Assisting with deal structuring and capital allocation decisions.
- Manage Board and Audit Committee reporting, including preparation and presentation of financial results, key insights, and strategic recommendations.
- Responsible for the financial budget, forecasting and management of cash flow.
- Implement and monitor financial controls to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting and to protect company assets.
- Standardize financial processes and controls through system implementation to improve efficiency, visibility, and reporting accuracy.
Desired Qualifications
- 15+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, with most recent scope at a senior leadership level in a public company accounting environment.
- A university degree in finance, business or other related field.
- CPA/CA (or equivalent) with previous progressive experience in an accounting/audit firm.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information in a clear and concise manner to executive leadership, Board members, and external stakeholders.
- Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to influence at senior levels.
- Strong technical IFRS accounting knowledge is required.
- Highly motivated, strategic thinker with a strong sense of ownership, accountability, and execution discipline.
- Adept at proactively identifying and resolving issues and bringing together the right stakeholders to the table.
- Experience working with ERP / financial systems and implementing new financial systems is an asset.
