Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Based in Los Angeles, BD&J is California’s leading personal injury law firm, and we’re seeking an experienced, strategic, and hands-on Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead the financial health and future growth of the firm. This executive-level role is ideal for a finance professional who thrives in a fast-paced legal environment and understands the unique dynamics of managing law firm finances.
The CFO will be a key member of the leadership team, overseeing all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, compliance, and strategic planning. This role requires a deep understanding of legal billing practices, trust accounting, and law firm performance metrics.
Responsibilities include:
- Oversee all financial planning, reporting, and analysis functions
- Develop and manage annual budgets, financial forecasts, and long-term strategic plans
- Provide financial insight and leadership to partners and executive team
- Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and ethical standards including IOLTA/trust accounting rules
- Monitor case profitability, cost recovery, and cash flow
- Oversee internal controls, audits, and risk management processes
- Supervise accounting staff and ensure timely month-end and year-end close
- Collaborate with department heads to optimize financial performance and resource allocation
- Manage banking relationships, vendor contracts, and insurance policies
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience
- 5+ years in a senior finance role (Controller, CFO, or equivalent), preferably in a law firm or professional services setting
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (MBA/CPA preferred)
- Extensive experience with financial reporting, forecasting, and strategy
- Deep knowledge of law firm billing, trust accounting, and cost management
- Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks preferred) and Excel
- Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills
