We provide a full range of wealth management, investment, and advisory services to retail and institutional clients across Canada. We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead our organization's financial planning, management, and growth initiatives. The CFO ensures compliance with CIRO financial and capital requirements, Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) regulations, and applicable accounting and audit standards. This role requires both hands-on oversight and strategic leadership in managing the firm’s financial performance, capital adequacy, and operational controls. The successful candidate will be working in Calgary, AB or Toronto, ON.
Responsibilities
- Lead financial planning, analysis, and strategy to support business objectives and profitability.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of all CIRO-mandated financial filings, including:
- Implement and oversee effective internal control frameworks and financial governance processes.
- Manage the firm’s liquidity, cash flow, and capital resources to ensure compliance with regulatory capital requirements.
- Work cross-functionally with operations, compliance, and technology to enhance financial processes and systems.
- Provide oversight of bank, custodian, and clearing relationships.
- Monitor capital adequacy and make recommendations for adjustments or capital infusions as necessary.
- Collaborate with the Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) and Chief Operations Officer (COO) to identify, assess, and mitigate financial and operational risks.
- Ensure appropriate documentation and testing of controls for audit and CIRO review.
- Monthly and annual Financial Reports (F1/F2)
- Risk Adjusted Capital (RAC) calculations and monitoring
- Maintain and monitor compliance with capital adequacy and liquidity standards.
- Liaise with CIRO examination staff, external auditors, and the firm’s compliance department.
- Ensure financial records and accounting systems comply with IFRS and CIRO Dealer Member Rules.
- Advise CEO and board on financial performance, trends, and risk management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive financial leadership experience, including 5+ years in a CIRO-regulated (IIROC/MFDA) environment.
- Deep understanding of CIRO financial rules, capital computation, and dealer reporting.
- Experience with mutual fund operations, investment dealer accounting, and client asset protection requirements.
- Proven track record managing audits, regulatory reviews, and financial system implementations.
- Strong command of IFRS and Canadian securities regulatory frameworks.
- Excellent analytical, strategic, and decision-making abilities.
- High integrity, sound judgment, and commitment to regulatory compliance.
- Effective leadership and communication skills to engage with executives, regulators, and external partners.
- CPA (CA, CMA, or CGA) designation required; CFA or MBA considered an asset.
- Eligibility to serve as the Designated CFO under CIRO rules.
