Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Full-Time | Executive Leadership
A respected, mission-driven nonprofit organization in the Greater Baltimore/Washington area is seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join its executive leadership team. Reporting directly to the CEO, the CFO will serve as a strategic business partner responsible for guiding the organization's financial health, long-term sustainability, and growth initiatives.
This executive will work closely with senior leadership and the Board of Directors to develop financial strategies, drive operational excellence, and support informed decision-making across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Strategy
- Provide strategic financial leadership and serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO and Board of Directors.
- Lead long-range financial planning and support organizational growth objectives.
- Deliver meaningful financial analysis and recommendations to support executive decision-making.
- Monitor organizational performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, sustainability, and financial outcomes.
Accounting & Financial Operations
- Oversee all accounting and finance functions, including general ledger, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and treasury activities.
- Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
- Maintain strong internal controls and financial policies.
- Oversee annual audits and ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Lead annual budgeting and forecasting processes across the organization.
- Partner with department leaders to develop financial plans and monitor performance against established goals.
- Evaluate financial risks and opportunities and recommend proactive solutions.
Capital Planning & Growth Initiatives
- Support major capital projects and organizational expansion efforts through financial planning, analysis, and oversight.
- Evaluate project feasibility, financing strategies, and long-term financial impact.
- Develop and review financial models, forecasts, and business cases related to strategic initiatives.
Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Build strong relationships with executive leadership, Board members, auditors, lenders, regulators, and other external partners.
- Lead, mentor, and develop finance team members while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Effectively communicate complex financial concepts to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
- CPA and/or MBA preferred.
- Progressive financial leadership experience with responsibility for accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning.
- Experience within nonprofit, healthcare, senior living, or other mission-driven organizations is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, internal controls, compliance, and financial management best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to partner with executive leadership and Boards of Directors.
