A high-growth, private equity-backed infrastructure business is seeking a commercially focused Finance Director / CFO to partner closely with the CEO and help prepare the business for a successful exit within the next 18–24 months.
With approximately £60m revenue, £15m EBITDA and a workforce of around 200 employees, the business is entering a critical phase of professionalisation and strategic growth. This role offers the opportunity to make a genuine impact across finance, operations, reporting, and value creation.
The Opportunity
This is a hands-on leadership role suited to an ambitious finance professional who thrives in fast-paced, evolving environments. The successful candidate will play a central role in strengthening the finance function, improving reporting and analysis capabilities, and supporting the wider commercial strategy ahead of a planned transaction process.
The business is open to candidates from both infrastructure-related sectors (energy, utilities, telecoms, water, gas, etc.) and high-volume B2C environments where operational complexity and commercial partnering are key strengths.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner closely with the CEO and senior leadership team as a strategic adviser and commercial sounding board
- Professionalise and develop the finance function, including team structure, capability, and processes
- Improve management reporting, financial visibility, KPI tracking, and data-driven analysis
- Enhance forecasting, budgeting, and commercial insight across the business
- Support operational decision-making through robust financial business partnering
- Lead preparation for due diligence and future transaction activity
- Help shape the equity story and investor materials ahead of exit
- Build credibility with investors, lenders, and external advisers
- Drive financial discipline while supporting growth and operational improvement initiatives
Candidate Profile
- Experienced Finance Director / CFO with a strong track record in growing or evolving businesses
- Comfortable operating in PE-backed, entrepreneurial, or change-oriented environments
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to influence at board level
- Experience improving finance processes, systems, reporting, and controls
- Exposure to transaction readiness, due diligence, or exit processes highly desirable
- Open to backgrounds in infrastructure, utilities, telecoms, energy, water, gas, or operationally complex B2C businesses
- Able to balance strategic thinking with a hands-on approach
Working Arrangement
- Initially expected to be on-site 4 days per week during the first 3–6 months to support transformation and integration with the wider business
- Longer-term flexibility can be tailored thereafter
